Organic Quail Meat - 4 pack

$22.00

4 whole quail per pack. Bone-in with skin (no giblets). Vacuumed sealed and frozen.

Meat is processed at a certified facility and inspected for wholesomeness under supervision by California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Quail taste similar to chicken but most would agree that it has a more tender flavor.

Quail is lean, dark meat, high in protein, low in saturated fat and a good source of vitamin B6, vitamin B3, iron and zinc.

It’s common to cook quail quickly over high heat and served medium to medium-rare to retain their moisture and flavor (similar to duck).

Our quail are fed a certified Organic layer crumble that is milled right here in Northern California!

Quality of life is important to us. We raised our Quail in large covey groups in mobile tractors on our property.

Information and Definitions

What is a Covey? A covey is a small party or flock of birds.

What is a tractor coop? A tractor is a mobile cage/coop that has a housing enclosure and outdoor run. It has a roof and is fully enclosed with wire mesh around the sides and bottom. The tractors get moved around the property once a week on average.

Why move the tractors? We move the tractors so the dropping/waste can fall through. The quail then have new land to peck at. Our chickens come and break the waste pile down by looking for left over food. As the chickens scratch the waste, it breaks down into the earth as a natural fertilizer.

Why do Quail live in large mobile tractor cages instead of free-ranging? Quail will not return to a coop like a chicken does at night. They would flee and get killed by predators. Living in a tractor-coop keeps them safe.

Are they happy in the tractor cages? Yes, we honestly think so! Whenever one escapes, it quickly regrets it and starts running around the perimeter of the cage, trying to get back in where it’s safe with plenty of food and water!
